Our Story
The Working Dog has been built around breed specific fulfilment.
Emma’s journey began in the show ring, she worked as a show handler, learning importance of physical structure, movement, temperament and breed standards. After travelling to 16 countries show handling American Bully’s, September 2023 the announcement of the XL Bully ban came in. Due to the requirements the breed were not longer allowed to be shown.
This pushed Emma into focusing more into obedience. She had rehomed Zelda and focused all training into her whilst helping others. Zelda attended protests and was a model of the breed. Zelda may look big and scary but is very social. Emma learnt about how different training methods suited Zelda due to her genetically make up. This is where Emma learnt the importance of genetics in dogs.
Emma felt passionate about the breed and is still her most popular client breed to this day.
Mega came along who is a Belgian Malinois mix. She has been looking into sport dog’s for some time to push herself and her dog training business. This was no easy ride! Zelda and Mega were totally different dogs.
Mega started bite work from a very young age. This was the only activity that really tired him out. Mega has learnt a lot of control around decoys and absolutes loves it. Emma learnt about drive, aggression and control very quickly with Mega.
Some breeds carry higher aggression levels due to different jobs. For different breeds were bred uniquely for different things. Zelda would not thrive in setting Mega would.
There is a massive misconception around breed genetics, training and general dog behaviours and this is why The Working Dog was formed.
